AIR TIGHT MEMBRANE

Airtight membranes are installed to prevent the ingress of un-planned air into and out of a building such as draughts around windows and doors, unwanted cracks in the structure and around services as they enter the building. This flow of air is gauged by means of a Blower Door Test which became a requirement for all new buildings as of July 2007. The prevention of these draughts involves designing and installing a continuous seal around the internal fabric of the external envelope of the building. Once the airtight membrane is in place and sealed with  tapes, seals and glues, it ensures that the insulation functions to its optimum performance, saving energy and drastically reducing carbon emissions for the lifetime of the building.
